Melbourne’s screensaver have released a single ‘The Guilt’ on news of their second album due out on Friday, 20 October entitled ‘Decent Shapes’. This is out via a new label deal with Poison City Records and reuniting with Upset The Rhythm (UK / EU) and recording engineer Julian Cue (CIVIC, Gut Health, Bitumen).

‘The Guilt’ is a cathartic slice of angular post punk pie with an ambulant bass, scything guitars, a clattering pace frosted with the arctic vocals from Krystal Maynard. The general air of insouciance and enigma is reflected in the accompanying video directed by Scott Marrinan: a cool and louche performance piece by the band full of 1000 yard stares with excerpts of visual commentary on the vicissitudes of life and the weight of expectations. Maynard says:

Existence can be exhausting: relationships to maintain, jobs to get done, people to impress, all the while the world is falling apart around us. In the clip we’re capturing the performative nature of life; the acting and the reacting.

Perfection is impossible, imperfection is human. You try your best to be everything to everyone at all times, but failure is inevitable and then the guilt arrives.

It is a thrilling sound and an enthralling video, exhibiting all the signs of a band creating fresh, visceral sounds:

“The Guilt’ is out now and available to stream and download here.

‘Decent Shapes’ marks the second album from screensaver, a project conceived in 2016 as a trans-Pacific collaboration between Christopher Stephenson (Spray Paint/Exek) and Krystal Maynard (Bad Vision/ex Polo).
