News: US independent folk-punks, Rent Strike and Doom Scroll announce extended double-bill Australian tour

Folk ‘Til Ya Punk Records have a proud history of bringing international folk-punk bands to tour Australia off the back of their annual festival, HOBOFOPO. Over a number of years they have brought The Taxpayers, Days N Daze, Apes of the State and Pigeon Pit to Australia, as well as working with AJJ and Crywank on Australian tours.

This year they are proud to be bringing two of the most active and popular folk-punk bands from the USA to tour Australia together as a double headline tour. The tour is nearly four weeks in length and will take in many major centres down the eastern coast of Australia.

Colorado’s DOOM SCROLL will bring an aggressive, melodic punk/crust wave of complex acoustic instrumentation and layers of harmonies knitted from decades of music appreciation and performance. Doom Scroll is one of six bands signed to Bottles to the Ground, the upstart label from NOFX front man Fat Mike, an imprint of the iconic punk label Fat Wreck Chords. Alongside diverse acts such as ska-fusion veterans Fishbone and punk-rap poets Codefendants, Doom Scroll’s unique blend of pop, punk, folk and acoustic metal makes it a perfect fit for the label’s eclectic flagship roster. Aside from songs ranging from politically-charged to existential in nature, Doom Scroll has leaned on its musicianship and vocal harmonies to draw in daring listeners. In the last 4 years, Doom Scroll have played over 200 shows, including festivals Riot Fest Chicago, Muddy Roots, Compost Heap, and Hellbound.

RENT STRIKE is a lore-heavy, genre-mixing amalgamation of folk, punk, jazz, and rock, hell-bent on the abolition of the present state of music. Their 2018 Lord of the Rings concept album, IX, received widespread accolades and radically transformed the lives of listeners worldwide. The years since have seen the release of the ambitious concept albums NOW, and Möbius Strip Mall, both sonically and lyrically pushing the boundaries of convention. RENT STRIKE refuses a world where they or anybody else is pigeon-holed, affirming a vision of a future where all are free, forever!

During the tour, Doom Scroll and RENT STRIKE will be playing with some of Australia’s finest punk bands, including Flangipanis (Lismore), Queerbait (Brisbane), Punish (Sydney) and Bad Form (Wollongong), along with some great folkpunk bands including The Dead Peasants (Melbourne), A Commoners Revolt (Canberra) and Bushed Poetry (Brisbane).

Additionally, Rent Strike and Doom Scroll will be playing a free early show at Vinnie’s Dive Bar on the Gold Coast to warm up the venue before Mike Muir of thrash punk legends Suicidal Tendencies takes to the stage.
