The glorious Eora/Sydney band GRXCE are back with the soaring anthemic track ‘Spit It Out’, which we are inordinately proud to premiere today.

The single features a passionate melodic delivery seething with anger and a thumping percussive drive, replete with an eviscerating guitar. The track seems to represent an evolution of the band’s sound into something nuanced and powerful: a full blown sonic eruption.

Enigmatic singer Jamila Grace says of the track:

When I wrote this song I was going through my angry stage of a break up – I felt so disappointed
watching someone I loved act in ways that weren’t in their best interest, to see them change and shift
from the person I knew into someone who leaned far too heavily on their vices. I think I had this idea that I would have left a lasting impact on this person, that I would be able to see the difference I had made. I felt angry at them for promising they’d be better, I felt angry at myself for not doing enough for them, and I felt angry in general for feeling so far away from someone I wanted to support and uplift. Really whilst it might seem like I am taking a dig at them in the lyrics, it’s an internal frustration aimed at myself for holding these insanely high expectations of myself and of this other person when in fact we are all just damaged people trying our best. I quickly realised it’s not my job to ‘fix’ another person and that a person’s actions when they are struggling aren’t necessarily the best indicator of their character or their care for you.

The result is a pop anthem that is like a defibrillator to the heart, confirming GRXCE as a giant amongst equals.

The track comes with an immersive video visualiser shot & directed by Nathan Rathsam (Dust, EGOISM). The visuals are an homage to the short film the three-piece dropped in 2024, shot in Marrickville’s Mothership Studios amongst a sea of red velvet cinema chairs, it’s the other side of the coin; the protagonist watching their own past and relationships on the screen.

GRXCE scores another winner. It is also the band’s first completely self-produced track, mixed and produced by their drummer Alex Berger in his home studio in Earlwood and will be available to download and stream here.

‘Spit It Out’ is out tomorrow (9 May 2025) and you can catch the band on the road launching the single – details below and tickets available here.

Saturday, 10 May – Diceys, Wollongong NSW
Thursday 22 May – Buddys Bar, Sydney NSW
