PREMIERE: Things heat up for Vancouver’s Bridal Party as they return with ‘Cool Down’

It’s been entirely too long since we’ve heard from Vancouver’s Bridal Party – they’ve been quiet, keeping their heads down and working on the follow-up to Too Much, their 2019 debut album. When your touring plans go up in smoke thanks to a pandemic there’s nothing else for it, we suppose, but we’re delighted to have them back.

It gets better – that album they’ve been working on is done and arriving early next year. It’s called Cool Down, and we’re premiering its title track, an expansive, airy song that calls to mind the likes of Japanese Breakfast and Blonde Redhead – a track that started out as a hastily recorded song fragment. The quintet’s keyboardist Jonathan Clairmont elaborates: “I was thinking about a Prince riff from “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and how well the chords worked together, so I started playing them in a different succession and everyone caught on and Joe [Leroux, guitarist] started recording it. [He] could tell the chords and beat held something fresh for us, so hit record and started playing along so the idea didn’t get misplaced.”

It’s definitely gone places since then. Tune in below for your first look at the video, and stay tuned for more from Bridal Party (no doubt including album details) before the year’s out.
