Atlanta’s Mimi’s Revenge blur-genres on the beautiful and atmospheric new single ‘Dire’.
Bringing together elements of bedroom-pop, R&B and alternative-rock, the single builds chorus tinted guitar lines, and swelling sub bass around the soaring central vocal melodies to create a dark and ethereal soundscape. Intimate thanks to the stripped arrangement with no drums, the track relies on its moody feel to pull itself forward, giving ample room for the beautifully layered vocal melodies to glide across the backing.
Comparable to Ethel Cain, the track is heartfelt, effortlessly cool and wonderfully cinematic, like the perfect backing for a dark new Netflix series.
“Our goal has always been to create a haven for the weirdos, the outcasts, the people who feel too much,” the duo shares. “Everything we make — the music, the visuals, the stories — is about turning pain into art, and giving people permission to feel deeply.”
Compelling, musically rich and well refined, ‘Dire’ offers a striking example of what Mimi’s Revenge are capable of.
