Track: The Damned release double A-side single “Look Left”/”The Devil in Disguise” ahead of new album

The Damned have announced the release of a new double A-side single release, with both tracks taken from upcoming album “Evil Spirits”, due to be released on the 13th April.

“Look Left”, written by drummer Pinch has the band in a melodic mood; it’s got a very 80s New-Wave ballad feel to it and an almost Bowie-esque vocal. Not to take anything away from it, but “Devil In Disguise” (also written by Pinch) stands out as the stronger single to me. I’ve always thought The Damned were at their strongest when playing to their goth-punk roots, and this has them doing exactly that; Dave Vanian’s dramatic vocal infused with a punk snarl stands out but that’s not to ignore Captain Sensible’s sizeable contributions on guitar and a really cool Farfisa organ riff from Monty Oxy Moron (why don’t bands have names like this any more?).

The Damned are on tour this summer with both headline dates and supporting the Hollywood Vampires, a strong contender for weirdest supergroup in the world consisting of Joe Perry, Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp (for some reason). That being said, the Damned have already played their own UK tour including back-to-back sold out London shows, and having seen them at British Summer Time last year, they’re definitely worth catching live; they’ve been on my gig bucket list for a long time and I was relieved they lived up to my expectations.

Hollywood Vampires support dates:

June 16th              Birmingham Genting Arena
June 17th              Manchester Arena
June 19th              Glasgow The SSE Hydro
June 20th              London The SSE Arena, Wembley

Headline dates:

August 22nd         Southampton, 02 Guildhall
August 23rd         Holmfirth, Holmfirth Picture House
August 24th         Warrington, Warrington Parr Hall
August 25th         Belfast, Belsonic Festival (*main support to Still Little Fingers)‘Evil Spirits’ will be available on digital download via Spotify and iTunes, on CD and 180g vinyl available to pre-order now from https://thedamned.lnk.to/evilspirits .
