Meet: Tuath – ‘Amhairc Thart Ort Fein’

Tuath are a Donegalway powerhouse, “an Irish language, psychedelic, progressive, post punk/rock, shoegazey band, founded by Donegal man Robert Mulhern”.

I had the absolute pleasure of making Robert’s acquaintance, at the recent ‘Distorted Perspectives‘ Festival in Letterkenny – an event to be applauded in promoting it’s uniquely peripheral status, set against a staid and predictable, Dublin-centric mainstream.

Collaborator and co-conspirator Ashley Mobasser on “saximaphone”, compliments Robert’s guitar, vocals, production, and studio duties, the slack being taken up live, by a veritable rogues gallery of a supporting cast.

‘Amhairc Thart Ort Fein’, (‘Look Around Yourself’), is a refreshingly uptempo helping, of Irish language driven, psychgaze symphonics.

The drone intro is only part of this rich, interwoven celtic tapestry, it yields to a cob-web busting, irresistible motorik maelstrom, west-coast storm-sent, yet measured in buoyant self-control, the subtly beguiling vocal, swathed as a particulate, complimentary ingredient in the studiously textured mix – the anthemic, celebratory undercurrent, envelops and entwines, the bass thrumming outro, reverberating in subliminal capitulation…

‘Amhairc Thart Ort Fein’ paints an abstract view on the blurring of transient verisimilitude, a wake-up call to arms, discarding blinkered subjugation, favouring the enrichment of true enlightenment.

In a world gone mad for corporate globalisation, it is a testament to Tuath that they espouse their native heritage, choosing to enliven and invigorate the mother-tongue, with a modern and innovative approach to their chosen craft.

I understand there are a couple of EP’s in the pipeline from this gaelic band of revolving gypsies, if ‘Amhairc Thart Ort Fein’ is anything to go by, the warm embrace of discerning aesthetes, is roundly assured…
