News: Botany View Hotel and Young Henrys Present Newtown Sound! Gadigal Land/Sydney’s New Music Spotlight

The Botany View Hotel and Young Henrys are teaming up to launch Newtown Sound, a fresh initiative that champions emerging artists while giving Sydney’s live music culture another inner west music-centric event. Starting 31 January, this weekly showcase will take over BVH every Friday night, spotlighting Sydney’s newest talent across indie, punk, rock, electronic, and everything in between.

For just $10, we’ll get access to a stacked lineup and some tempting extras: Young Henrys beer specials and bites from The Sunset Diner, all served in the heart of Newtown. Over the next 10 weeks, expect to see acts that’ll make you wish you’d heard them first, from psych-folk to cinematic rock.

Things kick off on January 31st with a punchy debut lineup featuring rock trio The Duke of Randwick, soulful newcomer BECHILL, and alt-rockers HALPERT. Each act promises to set the tone for a series that’s all about boundary-pushing sound. Fast-forward to February 7th, and you’ll find yourself immersed in Kryver’s post-punk vibes, Len Lennox’s indie anthems, and the hypnotic psych-folk of SunStalkersss.

Valentine’s Day plans? Sorted. February 14th serves up a night of cinematic rock and raw emotion with Bad Witch, Alex Fears, and Good Hounds, perfect for lovers, heartbroken souls, or anyone who’s somewhere in between. The series continues on February 21st with Superblock’s high-energy alt-rock, Rattlegun’s electrifying psych sounds, and Anton Johansen’s soul-baring indie gems.

BVH has long been a cornerstone of Sydney’s live music history, hosting acts like Amyl and the Sniffers, DMA’s, and Mac The Knife before they became household names. Now, with Newtown Sound, it’s doubling down on its role as a launchpad for future icons. There’s no better venue to soak up the energy of a live gig while supporting Gadigal/Sydney’s vibrant music scene.
