News: NMDA and Isabelle Rose Unite For New Electrosoul Single ‘Stoned’

Electrosoul innovators NMDA and Isabelle Rose are pushing the boundaries of emotionally driven music with the release of their compelling new single, ‘Stoned.’ Blending gospel intensity, cinematic electronic production, and deeply personal storytelling, the collaboration delivers an uncompromising exploration of trauma, accountability, healing, and the complex cycles that shape human behavior.

Far from a conventional soul or electronic release, Stoned occupies a space where immersive production meets fearless songwriting. The track combines lush electronic textures, live instrumentation, and orchestral elements with an emotionally charged vocal performance that refuses to shy away from difficult subject matter.

For multi-instrumentalist and producer NMDA, the single represents a significant creative evolution. Originally performing as a guitarist and saxophonist across punk rock and jam fusion scenes, he later transitioned into electronic production, developing a signature sound that seamlessly blends downtempo, chillhop, funk, soul, ambient music, and electrofunk. Drawing inspiration from artists including FKJ, Gramatik, Lettuce, GRiZ, and Emancipator, NMDA has built a reputation for creating groove-driven compositions rich in texture, atmosphere, and emotional depth.

Joining him is vocalist and songwriter Isabelle Rose, whose powerhouse delivery is rooted in jazz and classical training while embracing the raw expressiveness of gospel, soul, blues, and rock. Influenced by legendary performers such as Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Susan Tedeschi, and Joss Stone, Rose has developed a commanding stage presence through years of live performance, including collaborations with Deep Banana Blackout and Funky Dawgz Brass Band.

The origins of ‘Stoned’ trace back to November 2025, following a turbulent cross-country journey that unexpectedly became the catalyst for one of NMDA’s most ambitious compositions. During an impromptu studio session in Denver, he found himself inspired by the emotional weight of soul and blues music, envisioning a track that would move beyond instrumental storytelling into deeply personal lyrical territory.

Over the following months, NMDA and Rose refined the composition together, shaping both its musical direction and lyrical narrative. Drawing from her own lived experiences, Rose crafted lyrics that became one of her most vulnerable and emotionally resonant performances to date.

Rather than presenting a straightforward narrative, ‘Stoned’ examines sexual abuse, trauma, and the cycles of harm that can ripple through generations. The song deliberately approaches these themes from multiple perspectives, including survivor and perpetrator, while broadening its focus to encompass all genders and the psychological prisons created by unresolved pain and inherited behavioral patterns.

Instead of assigning simplistic roles of victim and villain, the song challenges listeners to confront the uncomfortable reality that trauma can shape lives in profoundly complicated ways. While emphasizing accountability for harmful actions, ‘Stoned’ also explores the humanity that exists within cycles of pain, asking difficult questions about healing, responsibility, and the possibility of breaking destructive patterns.

For Isabelle Rose, the message carries particular significance. As a survivor of sexual abuse, she has long spoken openly about healing, accountability, and compassion, bringing an unmistakable authenticity to a performance that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Musically, the collaboration showcases the strengths of both artists. NMDA’s layered production merges electronic precision with organic instrumentation, creating expansive sonic landscapes that ebb between intimate vulnerability and cinematic intensity. Rose’s soaring vocal performance anchors the composition with equal measures of strength, tenderness, and emotional urgency, elevating the track into something that feels as much like a film score as a soul record.

The result is an ambitious fusion of electrosoul, gospel, and electro-orchestral production that refuses to conform to genre expectations while inviting listeners into an emotionally immersive experience.

With ‘Stoned’, NMDA and Isabelle Rose deliver more than a new single. They present a work that challenges audiences to engage with difficult conversations through music, demonstrating how vulnerability, artistry, and emotional honesty can intersect to create something profoundly human.

As both artists continue to expand their creative horizons, ‘Stoned’ stands as a defining statement of intent, bold, cinematic, and unafraid to explore the emotional complexities that lie beneath the surface.
