News & Track: Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers Return With Latest Single ‘Balcony’ Ahead of Pearl Jam Support Slot & US Headline Shows

Remember when Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers dropped their debut album ‘I Love You’ way back in 2023? I do. Around that same time, I caught their all-ages show at Metro Theatre. It was so obvious then: TJATJT were standing at the helm of a proper awakening for every young rock fan in the room.

It’s not like it came out of nowhere, either. From 2020’s ‘Desk Chair’ through to their 2022 EP ‘Pretty Good For a Girl Band’, they’ve never strayed from what they’re about – bold lyrics, sharper instincts, and a refusal to water any of it down. If anything, they’ve only gotten better at cutting through the noise.

Now, nearly two years on from that debut, we’ve all grown up a bit – them included. You can hear it in their new single ‘Balcony’, which arrives just ahead of their return to the US next month.

It’s the first track to surface from a five-week session at The Grove Studios, recorded with London-based producer Catherine Marks (boygenius, Wolf Alice, Foals). ‘Balcony’ sounds impulsive, a bit unhinged, and completely on brand. In their own words: “BALCONY IS FOR WHEN YOU’RE FEELING CHEEKY AND WANT TO KISS SOMEONE ON THE FACE AND GET KICKED OUT OF A BAR!!! CHAOS!!!!!”

That sense of chaos now has a bigger stage. This month, they’re set to support Pearl Jam on six US arena dates – off the back of their recent East Coast run across so-called-Aus – and they’ll squeeze in three of their own headline shows while they’re there.

Though, even while they’re levelling up, they haven’t lost sight of what matters. They’ve shown up as ambassadors for Green Music’s No Music on a Dead Planet, played at Rising Tide’s rally on the steps of Parliament House, contributed to the national inquiry into live music, and backing the AAM’s Michael’s Rule. Loud on stage, loud where it counts.
