Premiere: Matt Costa returns with atmospheric new single ‘The Golden Ghost’

Back in April we shared Matt Costa‘s score for Katabatic Flight, as well as the film itself, indicating a follow-up to 2020’s album Yellow Coat was on the way. This hasn’t materialised yet – Costa probably needs some additional time as he seems to be constantly making something – but what we do have is a promising indicator of what the album might sound like.

The atmospheric folk of his new song ‘The Golden Ghost’ arrives ahead of a co-headline tour with Cayucas, kicking off next week. It’s an appropriately sparse and haunting song, with Costa explaining: “‘[The] Golden Ghost’ is a song that I wrote after meeting a long lost relative. I started writing it in the morning, took an eight hour drive through the Mojave desert, and came home late that same night to complete the song. I felt strange that an imagined reality can be more powerful than an actual one. I recorded it in the golden state of California.”

We’re premiering the song below, and you’ll likely hear ‘The Golden Ghost’ live on the October/December run. Hit Cayucas’s website for all the details, and stay tuned for more from Matt Costa. No doubt we’ll be hearing from him again soon.
