Eora/Sydney band KRYSTAL RIVVERS have today released their sparkling new single ‘Sienna’, confirming a very exciting presence.

Coasting on a jingle jangle bedrock, the track sparkles with a vitality as Boon Wurrung/Wurundjeri storyteller and lead singer Earl Weir’ vocal’s enter, deep and sonorous, an enigmatic delivery with an angelic chorus in the distance. The anthemic track reminds me of Naarm/Melbourne band Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird: a big band sound with a thrilling cinematic scope that positively shimmers like the stars in the firmament.

Weir says of the track:

The story’s foundation is the poetry; we’ve used tones and energetic shifts to bring that to life. Through that basis, I can tell my version of the story while leaving space for the listener to interpret the lyrics in their own way. With the balance of light and dark, happy and sad, you are able to let the song take you wherever you want to go.

The result is a radiant ray of sunshine – with a rich antipodean flavour with boundless horizons and an anthemic brilliance. The tale told is nostalgic and romantic, enigmatic and thrilling:

‘Sienna’ is out today and you can download and stream through the link above and here.

You can catch KRYSTAL RIVVERS on tour – details as follows:

Friday, 17 January | Beach Road Hotel, Eora/Bondi NSW
Saturday, 18 January | King Street, Mulubinba/Newcastle NSW
Friday, 28 February | Lulie Tavern, Naarm/Melbourne Vic

Other Tour Dates

Saturday, 5 April | Booty Block Party, The Lansdowne Hotel, Eora/Sydney NSW

Outside of KRYSTAL RIVVERS, lead singer Weir is also a First Nations radio program host and works on the First Nations advisory committee for Waverley, working across cultural projects, recognition and community initiatives. He also runs a mental health surfing comp called Mullet PRO. Earl add:

I’m passionate about my aboriginal culture and speaking out against racism, so I feel fortunate to be able to do the work I do. I started Mullet PRO due to losing my best friend 10 years ago; mental health is an issue that’s very close to my heart.
