Track: Former Mighty Lemon Drops man David Newton teams with Art Brut’s Eddie Argos on The Songs That Changed Our Lives

Under the moniker that has stood Since 2011 – David Newton & Thee Mighty Angels, the former Mighty Lemon Drops man (and briefly a Blue Aeroplane) David Newton has released a new single, The Songs That Changed Our Lives, which features old friend and Art Brut front man Eddie Argos.

Following the single, there will be a full length album A Gateway To A Lifetime Of Disappointment, released on August 14th, consisting of ten songs chronicling both the joys and the disappointments of what life throws at us.

Essentially exactly what it says on the tin, the song is a list of songs that have inspired David over the years. He says ‘“It is basically a fun list of some of the songs that had a big impact on young me. I didn’t put too much thought into it really, it’s not a definitive list and there are so many missed out, I just picked the ones that rhymed ha ha. When Eddie said that he’d love to do the vocal on it I asked him if he wanted to omit or add anything, and he said no, they are ones that he would pick. I think maybe that’s one of the reasons why we hit it off when we first met, over a dozen years ago now. We would stay up late laughing and listening to records at my pad in Joshua Tree, and this led to me making an album and touring Europe with him as part of Everybody Was In The French Resistance..Now! in 2010.”

With a foot firmly placed in those 80s indie pop days, with Argos’s delivery reminiscent of said Blue Aeroplanes Gerard Langley, and the joyous indie pop backing a delight – the list is decorated by uplifting melodies and delicious vocal hooks that would brighten any day.

It’s accompanied by a video showing all the records on the list in vinyl form. Check it out, here
