The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have just released a new single ‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’ which can be streamed HERE.

The band, made up of Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase have also announced that their fifth studio album, ‘Cool It Down’, will be released on 30th September via Secretly Canadian and that it will feature cover photography by Alex Prager.

‘Spitting Off the Edge of the World’ was produced by Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio) and features Perfume Genius on vocals, the track premiered on Sirius XMU. According to Karen O, the lyrics of the new track reflect on the state of the environment, and the need for honesty about the damage we’re doing to the Earth.

“I see the younger generations staring down this threat, and they’re standing on the edge of a precipice, confronting what’s coming with anger and defiance, it’s galvanising, and there’s hope there.”

‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’ has an accompanying video directed by longtime Yeah Yeah Yeahs collaborator, Cody Critcheloe (aka Ssion.) The track features an interplay between the vocals of Karen O and Perfume Genius and builds to an almighty crescendo of crashing guitars.

The title of the new album ‘Cool It Down’ is taken from a lesser known Velvet Underground song of the same name.
