PREMIERE: Paper Idol releases title track from eagerly-awaited debut album The Playground

We’ve been looking forward to this one for a hot minute. Reintroducing Matan KG – last year he released the Mania Days EP as Paper Idol, and threw out a couple of loosies at the start of 2022, but if you haven’t been keeping up, he’s spent the rest of the year in album mode.

Said album is almost here – it’s called The Playground, and as if our appetites needed further whetting, Matan’s premiering the title track with Backseat Mafia, which is nice of him. It’s a stunner. Of it, he says: “‘The Playground’ is about missing the purity of childhood. It’s so easy to get caught up in status, envy, comparing yourself to others… there was a time when we were just “being,” soaking up the world around us with no ego. Me and my bandmate Adam tried so many different ideas for the chorus that didn’t work. Then the idea of a vintage children’s choir came up – perfect! I got in touch with The West Los Angeles Children’s Choir and they totally nailed it. This was during the pandemic, so we had zoom rehearsals and each child recorded his part at home. It was such a fun experience taking those records and fitting them into the record.”

Check out ‘The Playground’ below, and stand by for the album of the same name, which follows at midnight.
