A couple of weeks ago we hauled ourselves over to Live at Leeds where amongst many others Lucan quartet The Riptide Movement we’re performing. Bonding over the likes of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Ryan Adams, Rory Gallagher and The Rolling Stones after meeting in 2006, the band – Mal Tuohy (lead vocals/guitar) and his bandmates Jay Dalton (guitar), Gerry McGarry (bass & harmonica) and Gar Byrne (drums & piano) have resolutely been doing it their way ever since.
And its paid off. A number one Irish album (soon to be released here in the UK) gigs from Dublin to Delhi, appearances at festivals such as Glastonbury and with acts such as the BBC Concert Orchestra; collaborate with Jim Sheridan on an update of The Commitments and support The Rolling Stones at their Hyde Park homecoming have all landed in the lap of the band.
