Irish Indie-pop-rock singer-songwriter Pat Donnelly shares the explosive and infectious new single ‘Walls’.
Bringing a soundscape of jangly indie-rock guitars and sprawling electronics, the track is topped with Donelly’s rock tinted lead vocals that bring a pop-punk tone whilst delivering commercially minded, instantly repeatable melodies. Raw, emotionally charged songwriting that journeys through the frustrations of unrequited love, ‘Walls’ is a cathartic burst of frustration and longing, driven by cinematic violins, synth-heavy layers, and his trademark pop-punk undercurrent, the track explores the universal ache of loving someone who keeps you at arm’s length.
Originally written back in 2021 under the title ‘Sidelines’, the song didn’t immediately make the cut for release. In late 2024, Donnelly revisited the track and soon found himself reworking it entirely.
“The engineer listened to the original ‘Sidelines’ track and immediately pointed out that the song needed some serious changes,” Donnelly recalls. “The tempos were fluctuating too much, and it just didn’t flow. I decided to rewrite parts of the song, and in about three days, I had a new version. It was a blessing in disguise – this track ended up being so much better than the original, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
